Advantest Announces 5th Environmental Action Plan

|
TOKYO, Japan, April 22, 2010 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), today announced the Fifth Advantest Group Environmental Action Plan, which sets out the aims of its environmental endeavors from fiscal 2010 to fiscal 2012. Under the plan, the Advantest Group will focus on the three main environmental activities outlined below, with all group companies taking an active part in promoting environmental management.

Under the Fourth Advantest Group Environmental Action Plan, which covered fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2009, Advantest implemented an environmental accounting system that enabled the company to collate and analyze its environmental impact data more efficiently. Other achievements in the period include the acquisition of integrated ISO14001 certification at all major facilities within Japan, in addition to the manufacturing and R&D facilities that had already achieved certification by 2007. The company continues to seek additional certifications. Moreover, during the same period, Advantest continued to develop products that meet company targets for lower energy consumption, recyclability, and the elimination of parts containing hazardous substances, with the result that 11 of the company's product models now consume over 30% less energy per function than previous models.
The Fifth Advantest Group Environmental Action Plan builds on these achievements and takes into account global social trends as well as changes in Advantest's business environment. It specifies an environmental management policy focused on acquiring additional integrated ISO14001 certifications and on reinforcing the Advantest Group's environmental management structure. Environmentally friendly products continue to be a central plank of Advantest's support for customer environmental management, with diverse products featuring lower energy requirements under development. In terms of group business activities, Advantest plans to further contribute to the fight against global warming by improving the efficiency of its manufacturing operations, thus reducing their environmental impact.
The Advantest Group will continue to strive to minimize the carbon footprint of its business activities, while enhancing its corporate value with a principled focus on the environment.
