TOKYO, Japan, October 23, 2009 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), announced that for the third consecutive year, it has contributed volunteers to local forest conservation activities in the Yasuragi-no-Mori forest of Gunma Prefecture, Japan.
Since 2007, as part of Advantest's ongoing CSR commitment, the company has organized annual employee participation in reforestation and conservation activities implemented by local authorities as part of the Basic Plan for the Management and Operation of National Forests set out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. On September 18th - 19th, 2009, a total of 22 employee volunteers participated under the guidance of Agatsuma District Forest Office employees at the Yasuragi-no-Mori forest in the town of Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture. As the operator of several corporate facilities in the area, Advantest selected the forest conservation project to meet its criteria of contributing to local communities while protecting the natural environment. Volunteers' activities included thinning trees and constructing a hiking trail.
Under Advantest's CSR policy, the company is committed to promoting environmental conservation efforts and achieving a balance between business activities and environmental concerns, while actively reducing its own carbon footprint. In addition to its forest conservation work activities in Gunma Prefecture, and its afforestation work on the Malaysian island of Borneo, among other projects, Advantest endeavors to offer environmentally non-hazardous products. The company will continue to implement a multi-faceted, comprehensive environmental policy to preserve the global environment and fulfill its responsibility as a corporate citizen.
