TOKYO, Japan, July 15th, 2009 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), held its 10th Science Craft Day on July 4th at its main research and development facility, the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma). The event attracted 154 participants from among local elementary school children and their parents, illustrating Advantest's commitment to local communities and families, and the company's support for science education.
With the theme of "Rocket Boys and Girls", the day was organized around the fun, educational activity of building rockets from PET bottles and launching them by means of water and air pressure. Advantest employees acted as instructors, explaining why these rockets actually fly and giving advice on how to make them soar through the air. Once all the rockets were complete, a contest was held to see who could propel theirs the furthest, bringing out the competitive spirit in parents and children alike as participants adjusted the water pressure and launch angle of their rockets. Ultimately, the winning rocket flew a stunning 103 meters.
Advantest has been holding its Science Craft Days since 2005 as part of the company's contribution to nurturing a new generation of intellectually curious children. The events also serve the valuable function of offering families a space to reconnect and enjoy quality time while they discover the pleasure of crafts and natural science. With over fifty years of experience in the manufacturing sector, Advantest recognizes the importance of cherishing our scientific heritage, while we look to the future.
