Advantest Manufacturing Inc. Wins Certification
for Family-Friendly Policies

December 22, 2008
Certification
TOKYO, Japan, December 22, 2008 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), has announced that the Kumagaya office of its wholly-owned subsidiary Advantest Manufacturing Inc. (AMI) has been certified by the city of Kumagaya, in Japan's Saitama Prefecture, as an Outstanding Family-Friendly Company. AMI is a provider of semiconductor tester manufacturing services, headquartered in Ora-machi, Gunma Prefecture.

Kumagaya City inaugurated its Outstanding Family-Friendly Company Certification Program in 2007 to support the adoption of corporate policies that meet families' needs. In this second year of the program, AMI was one of just three companies that met certification standards. Among the company's family-friendly policies, judges noted that AMI offers 2 years of parental leave and reduced working hours for parents with preschool-age children. AMI was also cited for actively nurturing a corporate culture that encourages parents to make use of leave policies.

Under Japanese law, employers are required to offer six weeks of family leave and one year of child-care leave, as well as shorter working hours for new parents, but surveys have shown that few employees take advantage of these policies. In line with its proactive support of an optimal work-life balance, Advantest is in the forefront of efforts to create a more family-friendly society.
