Advantest Continues Malaysian Reforestation Activities

|
TOKYO, Japan, December 19, 2008 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), continues working to restore the seraya forests on the Malaysian island of Borneo. In a sequel to the 3-year project completed in 2006 as part of the company's CSR activities, employee volunteers returned to Kinarut, Sabah, on November 28th - 30th, and planted approximately 1,000 seraya saplings, a tree indigenous to the region.
During the company's previous reforestation project, Advantest volunteers planted 7,500 seraya saplings on 30 hectares of land. Unfortunately, however, the saplings planted in the third year of the project suffered from lack of rain and were also damaged by squirrels that have lost their habitat to development in surrounding areas, leading to the deaths of 95 percent. Advantest responded to this sad news by replanting the site with seraya saplings of a strain said to be less prone to squirrel damage, as well carrying out maintenance of the surviving original saplings. Altogether, 21 employee volunteers participated.
Advantest will continue to implement a multi-faceted, comprehensive environmental policy to preserve the global environment and fulfill its responsibility as a corporate citizen.
