Advantest Introduces New Options
for the U3700 Spectrum Analyzer Series

September 17, 2008
Series of new options, including industry's first 2-channel input option, enhances the U3700 series' repertoire
U3741
TOKYO, Japan, September 17th, 2008 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), the world's leading supplier of semiconductor test equipment, today announces three new options for its U3700 spectrum analyzer series. Available from October, the 2-Channel Input, Time-Based Analysis, and 6GHz Tracking Generator options enable low-cost signal evaluation on production lines for wireless communications equipment and wireless communications modules, in wireless network site surveys and in other field uses.
The U3700 and its new options will be on display at the 2008 Microwave Workshops and Exhibition to be held from November 26th to 28th at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center in Japan.

New Options Address Demand for Improved Efficiency
in Signal Evaluation

Wireless communications are now being used in an increasingly wide range of applications, including in games consoles and in-car electronics, and the volumes of data handled are constantly increasing. For the stable and high-speed transfer of such data, new communications technologies such as multi-antenna MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output), are now being utilized widely. To measure signal characteristics and assess quality, spectrum analyzers are used in the development, production and maintenance of wireless communications products, but calls were for more efficient evaluation systems. Advantest's new options for the U3700 work to address this demand.

Key Features
1) 2-Channel Input Option
An industry first, this option offers two independently operating RF signal input ports, meaning that the networking standards of differing communications systems can be measured in parallel, as can the output signals of two antennas. The 2-Channel Input Option enables two signals to be monitored in tandem, which is not possible with 1-channel models and, to date, required complex systems constructed of two spectrum analyzers. This option simplifies the process and affords a considerable saving in time.
2) Time-Based Analysis Option
This option can be used in assessing the performance of electronic devices that use digital modulation, including games consoles with wireless connectivity and in-car electronics, as well as in evaluating the operation of the chips inside. By performing not only signal frequency analysis, but also time-based signal analysis, the process of sorting good products from bad is greatly facilitated. Before, time-based analysis of variations in frequency, power, and phase required the spectrum analyzer to be used in conjunction with an oscilloscope, as well as complex computations. This option enables efficient, low-cost time-based analysis of frequency, power and phase signals using just a spectrum analyzer.
3) 6GHz Tracking Generator Option
The frequency bandwidth of wireless LAN and ETC operating on IEEE802.11 standards exceeds 5GHz which, until now, had necessitated the use of highly priced spectrum analyzers. This option greatly enhances the U3700 series' current 3GHz measuring capabilities. By enabling the series to now support 6GHz devices, it makes low-cost evaluation of high-frequency wireless systems possible.
