Advantest Volunteers Participate in Forestry Conservation Project
September 28, 2007
TOKYO, Japan, September 28, 2007 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), has participated in a local forestry preservation project. On September 22nd and 23rd, volunteers from the company took part in conservation activities at the Yasuragi-no-Mori forest in the town of Kusatsu, situated in Gunma Prefecture, where Advantest operates facilities.

As part of the company's ongoing commitment to CSR, 20 employees participated in this forest maintenance program, organized by the Forestry Agency. On the day, under the instruction of Agatsuma District Forest Office employees, the Advantest Group volunteers worked to thin out and remove dead trees from the forest, which was originally planted in about 1950. In a study session about the environment, participants were informed that the thinning out of forests encourages the growth of broad-leaved trees, and learnt that this in turn helps to create a healthy forest, with increased carbon dioxide absorption and the ability to maintain a high quality water supply for surrounding areas. Volunteers pledged to look after the forest for future generations, adopting one tree each, on which they placed a plaque engraved with their name and the name of the tree.

As part of its CSR Policy, Advantest has been working towards the aim of harmonizing its activities with society, and has strived to protect the natural environment through activities such as afforestation work on the Malaysian island of Borneo, and by offering environmentally friendly products. The company is earnest in its pledge to contribute to society, and plans to make further efforts to preserve the local environment by expanding the scope of its CSR activities.
