TOKYO, Japan, April 17th, 2007 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), has donated an SoC test system (T6671E) and software to the Semiconductor Technology Center at Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology (FAIS), as part of its social responsibility program.
Operating in Kitakyushu, where Advantest has R&D facilities*, the foundation is the nucleus for semiconductor industry activity in the area, encompassing chip design, manufacture and testing, and applications development. It supports semiconductor-related business ventures and provides training for semiconductor design engineers. The T6671E tester donated by Advantest will serve a useful purpose in the foundation's training programs for engineers at the Hibikino Semiconductor Academy, enabling courses (on handmade semiconductor integrated circuits) that cover the field of test technology for the first time. Advantest believes that by donating this equipment and providing the opportunity for more engineers to carry out practical research and development work, it will contribute to both the further expansion of the semiconductor industry and the training of highly skilled engineers in the testing sector.

At the presentation ceremony on April 13th, Mayor of Kitakyushu Kenji Kitahashi commented, "Of all semiconductor-related companies in the Kyushu area, some 80 of them, representing around 15%, are located in the city of Kitakyushu, and most of these companies accumulating here are manufacturers of raw materials, components, machinery and equipment. We consider the semiconductor industry the most important industry for the area and by developing Kitakyushu's potential as an academic city, we hope to encourage such companies to expand or set up business here. We also aim to promote Kitakyushu's development as a broad-scoped city of industry and an attractive area for investment. FAIS plays an important role in the collaboration between industry and academia and Advantest's donation will serve to expand the foundation's breadth of activity in its training of skilled personnel and in research and development. The automotive industry is developing into a new key industry for Kitakyushu and the expansion of electronics in the sector means that semiconductor companies will play an increasingly significant role in the city's future industrial growth. Since setting up an R&D center in Kitakyushu in 2002, Advantest has played an active role in the industry here. I am expecting a great deal from the company."
