Advantest Completes 3-Year Malaysian Reforestation Project
December 25, 2006
TOKYO, Japan, December 5, 2006 - Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), has completed a project aiming to restore the seraya forests of Kinarut, Sabah, on the Malaysian island of Borneo. Launched in 2004 as part of the company's CSR activities, the reforestation project saw employee volunteers planting 7,500 seraya saplings on 30 hectares of land over the past three years.

A treasury of rare wildlife and plants, the forests of Borneo are known as "the lungs of the earth." Inhaling carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen, they play an important role in sustaining the global biosphere and human life. Tragically, in recent years, the destruction of indigenous forest has increased due to commercial and illegal logging, which leads to a loss of biodiversity and the extinction of precious animal and plant species.

Putting into practice its CSR principle of cherishing the natural environment, in collaboration with Fujitsu Ltd., Advantest has supported the Sabah Forestry Development Authority (SAFODA) with volunteer assistance and financial contributions. The company's relationship with SAFODA also underlines its commitment to forming productive bonds with local societies. In 2006, the third year of the reforestation project, a total of 2000 seraya saplings were planted by 28 volunteers drawn from Advantest's Japanese workforce and local staff in Malaysia and Singapore. At a November 23rd ceremony to mark the opening of the forest to the public, SAFODA presented Awards of Appreciation to Advantest and Fujitsu in recognition of their contributions.

Advantest will continue to engage actively with local groups and undertake further environmental conservation projects to protect and preserve our global environment.
