TOKYO, Japan --October 27, 2005-- Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), the global leader in semiconductor test systems, has launched a new initiative in SoC test solution development at its US subsidiary, Advantest America Inc. (located in Santa Clara, California; president, Robert Keith Lee), and has announced plans to significantly increase staff in this critical business area. The new R&D center aims to expand the range of optimal, affordable SoC (System on Chip) test solutions that the company offers to the highly diverse SoC market, which is concentrated in the U.S
Already enjoying a reputation for prompt and creative attention to customer test solution needs, Advantest plans with the establishment of this new U.S. R&D center to accelerate product development, reinforce its ties with third-party vendors, and expand the available range of OPENSTAR compliant T2000 test system modules.
To date, Advantest America, a locally incorporated subsidiary, has served as a distributor and maintenance provider for Advantest products, as well as carrying out development of test solutions utilizing PXI carriers and providing technical support for third-party vendors developing T2000 test system modules.
While the company's sales and maintenance support structure remain unchanged, seven newly hired development engineers have joined its restructured R&D group, which Advantest plans to expand further in the near future. It plans delivery of its first American-developed test solutions in 2007. The expanded R&D group will promote the third-party-vendor development and system integration of T2000 test system modules, aiming to accelerate the delivery of modules that exactly match the needs of the market. In the medium term, the company plans to double its force of development engineers, creating a unified operation that can work closely with American customers in the solution development phase as well as sales and maintenance.
Strategically committed to increasing its share of the SoC ATE market, Advantest has expanded its lineup of test equipment for specialized semiconductors such as LCD drivers and image sensors. It has simultaneously launched a barrage of products targeted at the mid-range SoC market, whose products are typically associated with consumer electronics, and the high-end SoC market, which manufactures devices used in top-of-the-line PCs, game consoles, high-speed routers, etc.
As a result of pursuing this strategy, the company's 2002 SoC market share of less than 10% has increased 170% in two years. And now, with the establishment of its new R&D group, Advantest is on track to accelerate its development of cutting-edge technologies on a worldwide basis, further expanding its market share.
