The FY2004 Environmental Balance Sheet |
| 1. Conservation Investments & Costs |
| This year, in support of the greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set out in the Kyoto Protocol and other environmental regulations, Advantest has introduced energy-saving facilities and strategies. Results from these expenditures, which are combined in the Balance Sheet with other environmental investments and costs for a total 155% higher than last year, are to be expected in the future. Results already reaped include a 144% YoY increase in total amount of materials recycled and the achievement of an impressive recycling rate of 97% at all eight of Advantest's domestic facilities. To these material benefits can be added the raised consciousness of Advantest employees worldwide, who have initiated their own environmental activities in support of company policy. |
| 2. Benefits to Customers |
| Since FY2003, Advantest has been measuring the effectiveness of its environmentally friendly products by, among other methods, computing the contributions that they make to its customers' environmental profiles. The latest set of results from these calculations show significant reductions in CO2 emissions and energy costs when the environmentally friendly products are compared to previously available products. Calculated using the 7 new products (out of 13 new products released in FY2004) which had previous models to compare against, they show dramatic YoY improvements of close to 180% in both categories mentioned above - an important contribution to customers' environmental preservation activities. |

Customer Energy Costs Calculation Method: |

(cost of previously available product's energy consumption in 1 hour - cost of environmentally friendly product's energy consumption in 1 hour) × # of said product sold in one year × operating hours per year |

 Issues for the Future |
| The Environmental Balance Sheet is a blueprint for Advantest's commitment to help relieve the burden on our environment. The company has expressed its will to build an effective structure to manage and minimize environmental impact from its products at every stage, from procurement to manufacturing to disposal at the end of their commercially useful lives. |
