TOKYO, Japan - May 31, 2005 -Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE), the global leader in semiconductor test systems, today announced availability of a new memory test system, the T5588, and a new dynamic test handler, the M6300. With double the parallel test capacity of currently available models - 512 devices per test cell - this new test solution is ideal for high-volume production of next-generation, high-speed DDR2-SDRAM memory devices.
In recent years, the number of broadband customers has increased tremendously, while content providers utilize expanding bandwidths to offer higher-quality audio, video, and other applications. Consequently, computer makers are expected to switch in the near future from DDR-SDRAM, presently the form of IC most widely used in memory modules, to DDR2-SDRAM. Offering increased transmission speeds of 533, 667, and 800 Mbps, these next-generation chips will help consumers to take full advantage of increased bandwidths. However, the expansion of the DDR2-SDRAM market is expected to aggravate price competition among manufacturers. Overall reductions of test cost on DDR-SDRAM mass production lines are urgently needed.
To date, Advantest has offered a DDR-2 test solution based upon the T5593, its memory test system designed for DDR2-SDRAM and DDR3-SDRAM package test, with a parallel test capacity of 256 devices. In contrast, the company's new test solution has been optimized for DDR2-SDRAM, which has a maximum transmission speed of 800 Mbps, in comparison to DDR3-SDRAM (1 Gbps plus).
The T5588 memory test system offers a maximum test speed of 800 Mbps in its DDR mode. In its two-station configuration, it boasts a 512-device parallel package test capacity - twice the capacity of the T5593, at only 1.3 times the floor space, contributing to space-efficient test line design. Furthermore, it inherits the FutureSuite® operating system developed by Advantest. Customers can choose between the ATL language or the worldwide standard language, C, to meet their test programming needs.
The T5588 is also the first DRAM package tester to offer an optional flash memory test function, making it uniquely adaptable to changing market conditions.
The M6300, launched simultaneously with the T5588, is a high-performance test handler capable of parallel processing up to 256 memory devices of package types TSOP-1, TSOP-2, CSP (Chip Scale Package) and BGA (Ball Grid Array). Inheriting the processing speed of the previously available M6542AD while adding functionality, the M6300 delivers a throughput of up to 12,000 devices per hour. Its thermal control function supports tests within a temperature range of -30°C to +125°C, with an option of extending the bottom of the range to -55°C. In addition, Advantest has developed a new air pressure control system that delicately adjusts contact pressure and speed, managing the load on the device contact point to minimize contact failures, while picking up and transporting these extremely small, light devices with great accuracy. This new construction has enabled Advantest to reduce the number of parts in each change kit - the component responsible for load management, which must be changed for each different device type - by approximately 70% contributing to significant savings for customers in the number of parts that must be purchased at changeovers and the labor required. |
