Gunma University Students Present Research on Biotope
March 23, 2010
Research Presentation
On March 4th, 2010, university students from Gunma University presented their research on biotope at the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma-ken).

The Center created a biotope on its property and has been calling for the protection of ecosystems and natural environment. As part of the effort to grow our natural environment into further maturity, we offered our biotope to the Environmental Sciences Laboratory at the Faculty of Social and Information Studies in Gunma University as material for their research. The Lab has been presenting the results from their studies, as well as giving us some advice, during the regular reporting meetings and the research presentation sessions.

Two students presented their research during the presentation session this time. Their presentations consisted of the following two themes: "the Basic Research on the Functions of the Ecosystem in a Large-scale Biotope" and "the Monitoring Research on Dynamics of the floral habitat in the natural environment near water in Gunma Prefecture." They reported on the issues such as the facilitation of plant diversity in the biotope, quantification of the CO2 absorption mechanism in the forest within the biotope, improvement on plant diversity in the waterfront environment, etc. We will make good use of these research results in the development of our biotope in the future.

We will also continue to enhance our communication with educational institutions such as universities through the biotope, as well as to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, in the future.
