Advantest (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. Tours a Water Recycling Factory
August 21, 2009
NEWater Study
For the purpose of promoting CSR and the environmental education, and to increase the environmental awareness among its employees, Advantest (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (ASP) toured a water recycling factory on July 17th.

The government of Singapore has initiated and supported a drainage-water recycling project, called the "NEWater Study," since 1998. This project aims to purify drainage water by using the advanced technologies and the system. The purified water is then blended with the water in a reservoir and is reclaimed to be drinking water in the end.

Because the national land of Singapore is small, it has been unable to set up enough storage facilities to provide water for the use within the nation, and it has been largely dependent upon the neighboring country, Malaysia, for almost half of the national water supply.

The NEWater project has been recognized globally for its stable water supply and the protection of water environment. The recycled water generated in this project now provides as much as 7% of the national water supply, and it has become a significant water source in the nation.

Eighteen employees from ASP participated in this factory tour. They had an opportunity to understand the process of supplying safe water through the state-of-the-art purification system and the stringent inspection process for quality maintenance. They were also able to learn the initiatives to protect the natural environment, including the method of effective use of water resources and careful considerations for water environment. The participants were able to spend very productive hours during this tour.
