Students Present Results from their Biotope Research

On March 9th, 2009, students from Gunma University gathered in the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma-ken) and presented their results from the biotope research.
Advantest has set up a biotope, with an area of 17,000m2, in its property. The purpose of this biotope is to develop and manage our natural environment so that the landscape of a traditional rural area can be replicated. It is also one of the topics for research by the Environmental Sciences Lab at Gunma University. They provide us with the results from their research and studies on the biotope, as well as their advice for the methods of nurturing our environment.
The main topic of their presentation this time was the "Basic Research of the Environmental Science related to the Mechanism of Formation of Plant Diversity in Rural Areas." They presented the results from their research on the current status and the maintenance mechanism of the rural areas, which include Advantest's biotope, in Gunma Prefecture.
Their observations were that three kinds of endangered plants have been growing in this biotope, that "in the nature restoration project, an appropriate environment for the community is formed by the minimum care provided on an ongoing basis," and that "active participation by anyone involved is required for long-term development and management of the environment." The information offered in their presentations was indeed useful for our management of the biotope in the future.
