The Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma-ken) has been carrying out beautification activities at lunch break since August 20th.
17,000 m2 of biotope is situated within the property of the Gunma R&D Center, and a lot of employees take a walk on the biotope, as well as the areas around the facility, during their lunch breaks and enjoy its rich nature. However, it has been increasingly noticeable these days that crows bring garbage to the biotope and people throw garbage on the roads nearby. So, with our catchphrase, "Let's volunteer to pick up garbage while we take a walk at lunch break," we launched the beautification activities. The objectives of these activities are to achieve 5S and to increase our employees' awareness for environment.
On the day of the activities, we organized our environment by placing garbage collection kits at the facility's service entrance so that our employees could use them freely. 35 employees participated on the first day of August 20th and collected approximately 21 kg of garbage, including empty cans and PET bottles, while they enjoyed walking and jogging. One of the participants commented, "It's very efficient that I can be engaged with both health enhancement and beautification activities at the same time." Another participant also said that "Although these are small activities, I'm glad that I can contribute to our community."
We will continue our effort in making the environmental activities stay with our employees and contributing to our community's environment by implementing the beautification activities once a month on a regular basis.
