As a Gunma-based company, Advantest Corporation carried out the forestry conservation activities in the Yasuragi-no-Mori forest in Kusatsu, Gunma Prefecture, for two days from Friday, May 30th to Saturday, May 31st. The objectives of this project were to take part in the Forestry Agency's effort in thinning the forest by 3.3 million hectares by Year 2012 to achieve the forest sink target stated in the Kyoto Protocol. The employees (25 people) from the Advantest Group used their community service leaves to participate in the forestry conservation activities such as thinning and pruning trees.
In addition to the forestry conservation activities, this second project included a nature walk to enjoy the views of wild plants and experience in the healing forest program, accompanied by the nature observation staffs and Kusatsu Healing Forest trainers, who were the local volunteers from Kusatsu-machi. We also planted a seedling of the wild cherry tree (yamazakura) donated by the Kusatsu-machi town office. We were able to take a close look at alpine plants and experience refreshing air of the forest, which helped us renew our understanding of the importance of forests.
We are earnest in our pledge to contribute to society and plan to make further efforts in developing multidimensional and comprehensive activities to preserve the global environment and fulfill our company's social responsibilities in the future.
