The Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-cho, Ora-gun, Gunma Prefecture) held a wild grass walk on the biotope located in the center's property on May 21st.
Our biotope stretches out in the area of 17,000 square meters. It is the largest biotope owned by a private company in Japan. Rich natural environment of this biotope consists of a pond, a babbling stream, forest, grassland, etc., and we confirmed 139 types of native vegetation as of December 2007.
On the day of the wild grass walk, one of the employees from Advantest Green Corporation guided 20 participants from the Meiwa-cho Public Hall Organization in Gunma Prefecture and provided an overview of the plant habitat in the biotope.
The participants walked through a variety of wild grasses and flowers such as Manchurian violet, Japanese mazus, Ixeris debilis, Japanese nipplewort, hawkweed oxtongue, etc., blooming in this season. They also took notes with enthusiasm, touched the grasses, took photos, and enjoyed observing wild plants along the way. It was truly an eye-opening experience for them to confirm the natural growth of Salvia plebia, which is listed as a threatened plant, and Joe-Pye weed, which is listed as an endangered plant, in this biotope.
We hope to continue to offer our company's biotope as a place for people to experience nature.
