The 3rd Conference of the Institute of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Japan was held at Nagoya University from February 28th to March 1st. Advantest Corporation presented a paper entitled the "Assessment on the Environmental Burdens of the Memory Test Systems" during this conference and discussed the results from our joint research with Fujitsu Laboratories Limited on our company's initiatives in the environmentally friendly designs and their effects.
The 1st conference for presenting research papers was held at the University of Tsukuba, and the 2nd conference was held at the University of Tokyo. However, no companies from the semiconductor manufacturing industry had participated in these conferences previously, and our company became the first one to participate, which added a significant meaning to our presentation.
In our research presentation this time, we discussed the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) conducted on main models of the memory test systems, which we sold for 15 years from 1992 to 2006, and presented, by indicating the historical improvement in performance and in environmental burdens, our achievements and the effects of developing and selling the products with outstanding environmental efficiency realized by our company's initiatives in the environment-conscious designs. The audience asked many questions with enthusiasm.
It was meaningful for us to be able to have such a forum for communication among the broad audience from government, industry and academia, which certainly went beyond the borders between different industries.
