Advantest Laboratories' Red Pine Woodland Designated
as Protected Wood

January 11, 2008
The red pine wood growing naturally in the grounds of Advantest Laboratories, in the Aoba ward of Sendai, has been named a protected wood by Sendai City.

The 80 or so red pine trees there are 110 years old and 30m high, and create a beautiful landscape. Since Advantest Laboratories was set up in 1991, this red pine woodland has been a place for employees to relax, and has become a symbol of our environmental activities.

Sendai City's system for designating areas of woodland as protected woods is part of its commitment to developing Sendai as a "City of Trees" and to maintaining such a city landscape in the future. The last time woodland was named as protected by the City was 32 years ago, when seven areas, including the zelcova tree-lined avenues of Aoba-dori and Jozenji-dori, were designated.

We plan to contribute to the local community by looking after these red pines, so that this area of woodland becomes representative of Sendai and popular with local people.
