Children Encounter Nature at Gunma R&D Center
June 30, 2006
Advantest's Gunma R&D Center, in Meiwa-machi, Gunma Prefecture, hosted nature encounter sessions on June 15th and Junes 23rd that were attended by, respectively, 67 second-graders and 76 first-graders from West Meiwa Elementary, accompanied by their teachers.

Children of this age are not accustomed to "stop and stare" at nature, so this was a rare opportunity for them to carefully observe animals - as well as to chase and catch them!

The pond at our biotope is populated by crawfish, an interloper that threatens indigenous species. We asked the children to help preserve the ecosystem of the biotope by catching as many crawfish as they could, and they happily cooperated.

We intend to hold nature encounter sessions regularly to enable the local children to strengthen their bond with nature and and familiarize themselves with environmental issues.
