Waste Reduction
We work on reducing the amount of end-disposal through reduction, recycling and utilization of waste, with the aim of promoting a recycling society.

Achieving Zero-Emissions of Waste
In fiscal 2002, our three main factories achieved zero-emissions of waste. Subsequently, we promoted activities to realize zero-emissions of waste at our R&D facilities by fiscal 2005. As a result, we achieved zero-emissions of waste in all of our six R&D and production facilities one year ahead of schedule, in fiscal 2004.
Definition of zero-emissions: 98% or more of subject waste is recycled.

Our Efforts Toward Zero-Emissions
Promoting Waste Recycling
We have been researching and adopting recycling facilities and services that can help recycle our waste, in order to effectively use the waste which is currently being incinerated or disposed of at landfills.
Through these efforts, we have become able to handle waste alkali and cleaning wastewater, leading to an increase in the recycling rate.
As for raw garbage and food residues, we process them at the food processing factory into feed, or into plant food using the garbage disposal system we have introduced into our facilities. We give the plant food to neighboring farms and our employees for free.

Thorough Separation of Waste
We instruct each employee to separate waste as part of environmental education. We thoroughly implement waste separation by indicating as much as twenty types of wastes at our waste yards.
We also monitor whether each department is separating waste properly, and indicate correction measures if we find deficiencies.

Reduction of Packaging Materials
We have started non-packed delivery of electronic measuring instruments for repair or recall. Also, whenever we need to move our products, we utilize reusable packaging materials, tote boxes or trays made for the purpose in order to reduce packaging materials such as cardboards and cushionings.
For packaging materials for our products, we adopt single-material cushioning to make it easy to separate or recycle, and display the type of material in order to facilitate appropriate handling and reduce the impact on the environment.
