Our ultimate goal is to reduce CO2 emissions per unit sales due to energy consumption by fiscal 2006 to 15% below the fiscal 2000 level. Our Efforts in Business Activities We have been making efforts to introduce energy-saving facilities such as heat pump chillers with heat recovery systems and inverter air conditioning in order to reduce energy consumption in our business processes. We also adopt energy-saving designs such as super-insulating panels and energy-saving fluorescent lights when we construct new business facilities. As well as installing energy-saving equipment, we have also introduced energy-saving measures, such as strict control of air conditioning temperatures and sharing the use of compressors. Heat Pump Chillers with Heat Recovery Systems Our Efforts in Production Activities We are promoting manufacturing reforms at Gunma Factory our production base. We have consolidated related facilities to this factory and have worked on reducing energy consumption, and also are making energy-saving efforts such as modifying the workplace layout to improve operating efficiency, introducing a storage production system to reduce excess inventory, and optimizing the delivery date. Through these thorough efforts to improve production efficiency, we have been able to reduce production times and save energy. Storage System at Gunma Factory Our Efforts in Logistics Activities One of our group corporations, Advantest Manufacturing, has implemented non-packed joint delivery of electronic measuring instruments with competitors' products for repair or recall, in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission. We also have established a system to determine the amount of CO2 emissions in the logistics process, calculating the amount emitted by our company-owned cars and freight cars. Based on these calculations, we implement environmental measures such as selecting energy-efficient driving routes and introducing environmentally friendly vehicles. Non-packed Joint Delivery Each Employee Acts to Save Energy Each employee acts in order to save energy by turning the lights off during lunch break and disconnecting business computers and monitors as often as possible. Furthermore, we implement educational activities via intranet websites and posters, and do a lights-out check using a list. Energy Saving Sticker for PC Environment
