Contamination Risk Prevention
We have been implementing risk management by putting into practice an environmental management system, in order to prevent environmental contamination from happening in the course of our business activities, and to respond quickly and appropriately in times of emergency.
We have also established and managed voluntary standards for pollution-related facilities, which are stricter than those of environment-related laws.

Potential Environmental Risks

1)

Emission of discharged water / exhaust gas exceeding our standard values

2)

Leakage of oil, chemical substance or waste liquid
(accidents which can cause soil, water or air pollution including those within the facility compound)

3)

Soil pollution, groundwater pollution

4)

Complaints from neighbors (noise, vibration, odors and so on)

Drills to Respond to Emergencies
We have established checking/reporting procedures and measurement items in a work procedures instruction sheet, implemented at facilities with potential risk of environmental contamination, as part of accident prevention measures. We also implemented educational drills at each facility in June, which is the World Environmental Month, preparing for emergencies such as a heavy oil spill and CFC leakage from the air conditioning system.

Countermeasures against Soil Pollution
Along with the enforcement of the Soil Pollution Prevention Law, we have been conducting studies based on the soil pollution investigation procedures in order to reduce potential risk, as well as making efforts to prevent soil pollution.
We have so far done research on items such as heavy metals, volatile organic compounds and dioxins at all of our facilities, to make sure that the values are below the standard limits.

Management of Chemical Substances
We adopt the chemical substance management system to centrally control the chemical substances within the whole Advantest Group. By executing quick and accurate registration, examination, and aggregate calculation of the chemical substances via the intranet, we can now search security/physicality information such as the MSDS* in real-time. We also utilize Advantest's Chemical Substance Management Standards as the evaluation criteria for chemical substances contained in products when implementing green procurement.
