Semiconductor-related businesses are going through a time of great change, with applications diversifying from computers into smartphones and energy-saving appliances, electric cars, medical electronics and more, while market demand shifts from rich countries to the emerging economies.
Amid these changes, Advantest is taking a step towards further globalization by merging with Verigy, a fellow semiconductor test equipment supplier. We will boldly take on the changes in our business environment and generate change ourselves.
This is the last year of our corporate initiative 1000 Days, which exhorts us to treat each day as precious, with the objective of achieving cumulative profitability over the three-year period from FY2009 to FY2011. Employees have been steadily driving results by forming teams that break down barriers between divisions, in line with activity themes they have thought up for themselves, to improve business efficiency and product quality and to accelerate technological innovation.
Every day, we tackle the challenges of developing cutting-edge measurement technologies that will support the technology of tomorrow, unified by the umbrella slogan of "TEST forward," under our corporate mission to "support technology on the leading edge." We will continue to take the lead in innovative measurement technology, with a firm belief in ourselves, meeting our customers' expectations squarely, no matter what troublesome issues crop up. Furthermore, as pioneers of cutting-edge technology, we will not limit ourselves to the semiconductor test equipment sector, but take up the challenge of developing new markets in the health care, environmental, and energy arenas.
